Daytona Triumphs at Daytona!
Danny Eslick celebrated at Daytona Beach, Florida, on Sunday March 15, by winning the prestigious Daytona 200 race. The Riders Discount Racing Triumph rider scooped a famous victory to give Triumph its first win at the Daytona 200 in 47 years.
It was a dominant performance for the pole setter. At the 73rd running of the 200, he led 44 of the 57 laps eventually finishing 10.975 seconds ahead of second place, and the first of four Daytona's placing in the top ten.
After an extended (and highly deserved!) victory parade lap, Danny returned to the pits to celebrate in style with his team and share his thoughts on his success.
"That was a lot of fun. That first stint was pretty incredible. We were knockdown, drag-out like it was a sprint race. The last stint seemed like forever, but that was literally like the shortest 200 miles of my life. It's been what? Since 1971 since we were on pole and (Gary) Nixon was the last one to win in 67," he commented. "That's pretty cool right there."
Triumph has previously won the Daytona 200 three times. Don Burnett won in 1962, Buddy Elmore in 1966 and Gary Nixon took the chequered flag in 1967
"Danny and the Riders Discount team ran an incredible race. It was absolutely amazing to watch them make history" said Greg Heichelbech, CEO of Triumph North America."In addition to becoming the first Triumph to win the Daytona 200 from the pole, four of the top ten are Triumphs. Congratulations to all of the Triumph riders and teams for a great race at Daytona."
