Upcoming race – Grand Prix of Italy

After the technical challenges of Aragon, the Moto2™ paddock heads to Mugello – a high-speed, high-commitment circuit nestled in the Tuscan hills. The 5.25km track features nine right-handers, six left-handers, and a main straight over 1.1km long – the second longest and one of the fastest on the calendar.

Mugello demands top-end performance, smooth throttle response and stable engine braking. With its flowing corners, elevation changes and hard braking zones, the Triumph 765cc triple engine’s strong midrange and linear power delivery give riders the control and consistency needed for both high-speed sections and rapid direction changes.

In 2024, Joe Roberts set a new all-time lap record of 1m 49.877 and Aron Canet set a new race lap record of 1m 50.476. The average lap speed was 292.3 km/h and the top speed recorded in the race was 308.5 km/h (Jeremy Alcoba), the fastest speed recorded in Moto2.

Riders changed gear an average of 19 - 23 times per lap in 2024. First gear wasn’t used and riders  spent the majority of a lap in second and third gear (47.81% and 36.18% respectively).

A look back to the last race - GP of Aragon recap

Steve Sargent, Chief Product Officer, Triumph Motorcycles:

"Aragon gave us one of the most exciting races we’ve seen this season – and it really showed what the Triumph 765 triple is capable of. From Deniz taking a sensational maiden win in the closest-ever Moto2 finish, to Diogo smashing the all-time lap record, the consistency and performance of our engine continues to deliver thrilling, unpredictable racing. With five different winners so far this year and podiums coming from across the field, it's fantastic to see so many riders getting the most out of the triple engine. I'm sure it won’t be long before we see Diogo and Barry on the top step. Mugello’s fast and flowing layout will be another big test – especially with that long straight – but it’s exactly the kind of circuit where our engine’s top-end speed and smooth power delivery can really shine."
