DGR art exhibition at Carl Rosner Triumph
To celebrate Triumph’s 10th anniversary as the official motorcycle partner for the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride and the support it provides to men’s mental health, this year South London dealer Carl Rosner Motorcycles presented an exhibition of works by their customer artist Alan Streets.
Alan, now 54, was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 23. His paintings are influenced by Graffiti Art and also Breugel, Hieronymus Bosch and Salvador Dali. During the 1990’s he was represented by the famous Nicholas Treadwell Gallery in London.
Alan began painting plein-air in New York in 2000 as well as in numerous other American cities. In 2007 a documentary about his career as a plein-air artist in New York was released called “My name is Alan and I paint pictures.” This film won 2 Academy Awards and was also shown on the Sky Arts Channel.
He had to return to England in 2010 to be retreated for schizophrenia as he had started to become unwell. Back on medication he was able to start producing more art and many of those were included in the exhibition which focused on city, landscape and imaginary paintings. One of those paintings was a commission of the Carl Rosner Motorcycle Dealership.
When he comes in for his bike’s service, Alan can be found sketching in the waiting area. He donated 20% of exhibition sales to Movember. To see more of his work head to alanstreets.net
