Cadwell Park Race Report
August Bank Holiday weekend saw the British Superbike (BSB) circus travel to the undulating Lincolnshire based Cadwell Park raceway for Round 8 of the 2013 BSB campaign.
British Supersport Championship
Factory team Smiths Triumph came away from Cadwell with their first win on the new 2013 Daytona 675R after Billy McConnell stormed to victory in Monday’s 16 lap feature race. The day before the team narrowly missed out on a podium finish with McConnell finishing in fourth place in Sunday’s sprint race. Defending Champion Glen Richards aggravated his shoulder injury with an off in Sunday’s race which put him off the pace on Monday ultimately finishing in 7th. McConnell’s points haul keeps the team in contention in the Championship standings (4th) with Richards maintaining seventh overall.
Richard Cooper and Scott Smart of Oxford TAG Triumph also had another encouraging weekend on the Daytona with two sixth place finishes and an eighth between them. It was Cooper who led the Oxford TAG duo taking sixth place in both Sunday’s and Monday’s races. Cooper’s teammate Smart looked strong in race one following Cooper across the line in eighth place but couldn’t repeat his performance in race two with a split water hose forcing retirement on lap six. Cooper now sits in eighth in the championship with Smart in twelfth.
T3 Racing’s Rob Guiver took a well-deserved double victory in the British Supersport Cup aboard his Ace Café sponsored Daytona 675R winning both Supersport Cup races and securing maximum points to extend his lead in the Championship to 51 points.
Profile Racing’s Luke Stapleford added five more points to his Championship tally after bringing his 2012 Daytona 675R home in eleventh place in Monday’s feature race.
National Superstock 600
Only a single Daytona 675R made the chequered flag in Monday’s Superstock 600 race with Team Haribo’s Jordan Gilbert delivering another consistent ride finishing 21st of 35 starters. Joe Collier, Team Haribo’s championship contender, crashed out on lap 3 of the 12 lap race. Collier has since slipped into fourth in the championship standings.
Triumph Triple Challenge
The Triumph Triple Challenge never fails to excite with Round 8 at Cadwell Park no exception. It was Chrissy Rouse who once again demonstrated championship winning pace and finished both race distances at the front of the pack securing another 50 points in the championship standings. This has further extended his lead over Charlie King who leads the Triple Challenge Cup by 35 points.
