Oxford TAG Triumph announce fantastic five
The Oxford TAG Triumph Supersport race team is set to compete in the British Supersport Championship on five Triumph Daytona 675s.
The Leicestershire based squad will be keen to continue on the progress made in 2011 with Triumph’s supersport machine and improve on their third, fourth and fifth series placing with a Championship in 2012.
The team of five will consist of one new rider to the roster in Richard Cooper who joins Oxford TAG Triumph off the back of a Superstock 1000 Championship. Alongside Cooper, Paul Young and Christian Iddon will spearhead the outfit with teenage brothers Shaun and Gary Winfield providing an element of youth to the line-up.
Cooper, 28, had been tipped for a ride in the British Superbike Championship and signed late for the Oxford TAG Triumph and will be looking for his second piece of silverware in as many years.
A hugely experience Young will be back on the Daytona 675 for the seventh consecutive year and fourth successive season with Oxford TAG. After suffering with injuries in 2009 and 2010, Young was back to his best in 2011 with one victory and three podiums which led to fourth place in the Supersport Championship.
Christian Iddon, who placed fifth in the Championship and finished no lower than fourth in the final nine rounds of the 2011 Supersport series, will commence his second season in Oxford colours this April at Brands Hatch.
Teenage brothers Shaun and Gary Winfield complete the five man roster, with the younger of the two, Gary, starting his 2012 campaign at Snetterton when he turns sixteen.
The team will compete on a grid littered with Triumph Daytona 675s for 2012 with VanCraft Triumph and Smith’s (Gloucester) Racing also entering teams for the 2012 British Supersport season.
