Storage Preparation
Following a few simply procedures could help maintain your bike’s value and
mean it’s fit for use on the first day of Spring. Below is a selection of useful
hints to preparing your Triumph for storage. Always refer to your owners
Handbook for comprehensive storage advise.
Clean and
dry
Ensure when putting your Triumph into storage that it’s clean
and dry, a tidy bike will help to prevent rust and spoiling.
Fill Up
Filling up at the pumps and adding a fuel
stabilizer will keep your bike’s fuel tank in good condition with the stabilizer
keeping the fuel usable come the Spring.
Lining the
cylinders
Remove the spark plugs from each cylinder and put several
drops (5cc) of engine oil into each cylinder. Cover the spark plug holes with a
piece of cloth or rag. Push the starter button for a few seconds to coat the
cylinder walls with oil. Replace the plugs.
Oil and
filter
A change of oil means your Triumph’s internals will be clean
a free of foreign objects over the Winter.
Tyre
Pressure
Check your tyre pressure and if necessary correct to recommended pressure.
Alternatively raise the bike on appropriate stands removing both tyres from the
ground. This will stop your tyres losing shape whilst stood for an extended
period of time.
Lubricate
Unpainted metal surfaces
should be sprayed with a rust inhibiting oil but remember to stay clear of
rubber parts, brake discs and calipers. You chain should also be lubricated with
the correct product.
Remove Battery
If the bike is
to be stood for periods in excess of two weeks then remove the battery and store
it where it will not be exposed to direct sunlight. A Triumph Trickle Charger
will maintain the battery over the storage period.
Cover
The bike is best stored in a cool, dry area
with a porous cover to maximise air-flow but keep dust and dirt off.
