Triumph Support Help for Heroes Round Britain Fund Raising Tour
On Thursday 17th June, a team of Navy bikers from 800 Naval Air Squadron, based at RAF Cottesmore in Rutland set out on the journey of a lifetime riding 4 Triumph motorcycles loaned to them by our UK subsidiary office.
The Lands End to John O Groat’s route has been tried and tested so something a bit out of the ordinary was required. Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Phil ‘Frog’ Spencer came up with the idea of a ride that covered the eight points of the compass by visiting the UK military establishments of all 3 services, from RAF Lossiemouth in the North to Portsmouth Dockyard in the South, and so the “Point to Point” Charity Motorcycle ride was born.
CPO Spencer then contacted Triumph Motorcycles on the recommendation of RIDE magazine to request both the loan of the bikes and Triumph dealer support along the way. The HFH team managed to visit most Triumph dealerships on route to “rattle the H4H buckets” and from a practical point of view to get the bikes checked over.
The route itself covered 3463 miles and as well as the military bases they also made important stops at the 2 biggest beneficiaries of the Help for Heroes Charity, Selly Oak and Headley Court Hospitals.
The team is as follows, headed by CPO Phil “Frog” Spencer also consisted of:
CPO Tony Fisher
PO Paul Fitzjohn
PO Dave Robson
LAET Craig Gilbert
LAET Stephen Church
LAET Wayne Drake
AET DOM Fraser-Shaw
AET Mark Franklin
SAC Adam Fletcher (Team photographer and blogger)
On returning the bikes to the Hinckley factory today CPO Spencer thanked Triumph for their generous support and informed us that over £10,000 has been collected over the past 2 weeks!
