Ride in to National Motorcycle Museum

2012-08-19

Last year, Bevan Triumph, Cardiff, organised a "Big Triumph Ride In" to the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum in the New Forest.

More than a dozen RAT Packs and a host of independent owners accepted the invitation to attend the event and approximately 400 bikes turned up to make it a day to remember. For 2012, Bevan Triumph will be organising a similar event on Sunday 19th August 2012, but this time at the National Motorcycle Museum, adjacent to the NEC.

This venue is more centrally located within the UK and will allow RAT Packs from further north to attend the event as a day ride.

As the National Motorcycle Museum is only a very short distance from Meriden, the previous home of Triumph, it is hoped that it will be possible that riders will meet up on the Sunday morning in Meriden and then have a Big Triumph Ride-In to the museum. Already, twenty-seven RAT Packs from across England and Wales have agreed to participate in this event, branches of the TOMCC are expected to attend and many more individual riders are expected.

The National Motorcycle Museum has developed into a focal point for the British motorcycle movement. It has become the largest motorcycle museum in the world and attracts around 250,000 visitors a year. One of the biggest attractions for many guests is the comprehensive cross-section of machines, spanning the “60 Glorious Years” of motorcycle manufacturing in this country.

Within the five exhibition halls will be found some 650 plus machines, fully restored to the manufacturers original specifications. On 16th September 2003 , the museum suffered a devastating fire, resulting in damage to 75% of the structure and some 400 machines.

Due to the determination of ownership, staff and contractors, the museum doors re-opened on 1st December 2004 .

Today the museum is home to more than 650 machines, with new acquisitions arriving daily. Normal price entry to the museum is £8.95 per adult, but the museum will offer us a concessionary rate for all Triumph riders. There is ample parking, there is a cafe on site for lunch and there will be the opportunity for a group photo shoot at the museum, with all the Pack flags on show! If you’d like to be part of the ‘Big Triumph Ride In’, please e-mail Chris Finch at Bevan Triumph, Cardiff, on rat@bevanmc.co.uk as soon as possible.

If you are tempted to make a weekend of it, The Manor Hotel at Meriden would be happy to offer room rates of £50 for single/double/twin rooms. This is reduced from a room only rate of £180 for regular bookings. These rates are inclusive of VAT and parking, breakfast can be added at a rate of £10 per person for a full English breakfast. The hotel facilities will be open for guests' use and will be able to offer drinks, food and snacks as appropriate. To facilitate this, the hotel will place a rate code in their booking system that mirrors the above rates. If potential guests quote the ride to the national motorcycle museum and the date, the Reservations Co-ordinator will be happy to book rooms at these reduced rates".
